Sen. MacDonald ‘disappointed’ with governor’s action on mask mandate restrictions

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Michael D. MacDonald, R-Macomb Township, issued the following statement after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed the fiscal year 2022 budget but declared language in the bill unenforceable that restricts any public department or officer from requiring children under age 18 to wear a face mask, including while attending a public school:

“I am extremely disappointed that the governor has decided to ignore this language — passed without a single Democrat voting no in the Senate — to protect the people’s right to make these personal decisions for their children.

“Many parents are choosing to wear a mask and have their children wear one when possible, but it should be their decision to make for themselves and their family.”
