LANSING, Mich. — After receiving questions from school administrators seeking clarification regarding grant programs for teachers and support staff announced earlier this week by the Department of Treasury, Sen. Michael D. MacDonald, R-Macomb Township, issued the following statement:
“Senate Republicans fought hard for supplemental pay for teachers and supported efforts to provide funding to critical school support staff. We recognize that bus drivers and personnel with specialized roles have gone above and beyond the scope of their regular jobs over the past several months and continue to deliver despite unprecedented circumstances.
“The presence of the virus has created unique challenges for our schools, but government should not be one of the challenges.
“We have heard from superintendents working to deliver support pay to school staff and we want to assure those administrators that the Legislature intended for their personnel to receive the additional pay.”
