MacDonald honors Michigan Corrections Officer of the Year

LANSING, Mich. — Sen. Michael D. MacDonald last week presented Vikas Vij of Macomb Township with a tribute in honor of Vij being named the 2021 Michigan Department of Corrections Officer of the Year.

“Vikas is a true public servant who strives to make a difference in our community,” said MacDonald, R-Macomb Township. “He immigrated to the United States from India in 1995 when he was eight years old. He was the first person in his family to earn a bachelor’s degree and choose a career in public service. In addition to helping keep our communities safe, Vikas has helped raise thousands of dollars for Special Olympics and volunteers for Watch D.O.G.S. at his daughter’s school. It was an honor to help recognize Officer Vij for his dedicated service to the people of Michigan.”

Joining MacDonald for the tribute presentation were Acting Warden Chandler Cheeks and MDOC Director Heidi Washington.
